Organizational Context:
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), an intergovernmental organization and specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders and is responsible for regulating the international postal service. It has 192 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne, Switzerland. Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples.

Main duties:
Under the supervision of the Director of Legal Affairs, the intern will be required to: - Carry out research and analysis and prepare draft documents on a range of legal issues relating to the structure, functions and activities of the UPU, especially in the fields of public international law and administrative law (relating in particular to the United Nations common system); - Support preliminary analysis of legal instruments such as treaties, agreements, regulations, resolutions and other legal documents relating to the work of the UPU; - Assist the Director and other members of the Legal Affairs Directorate in providing services within the scope of the UPU, including: preparing background papers, reports and other documents; summarizing viewpoints and practices concerning specific legal issues; and developing draft legal instruments such as draft texts for treaties, agreements, contracts, internal rules and regulations, and other legislative texts relating to the UPU.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED |
Technical knowledge:
- Law student enrolled in a university or similar establishment, whose programme of study is ongoing or about to finish, or having graduated with a law degree within a maximum of 6 months prior to application. - Good knowledge of public international law, law of international organizations and/or arbitration law. - Excellent command of written and spoken French or English, with a good command of the other language. - Minimum age: 20 years.

In line with UPU rules, this traineeship is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for STUDENTS. Any other candidate profile will not be considered. Recent graduates in the areas described above are also invited to apply. They must have graduated within six months of the date of this announcement.
