Organizational Context:
This is a vacancy in the General Service category for which local recruitment procedures apply in accordance with the Staff Regulations of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union. In this regard, vacancies in the General Service category shall be filled by recruitment of candidates residing as near to the headquarters of the Union as possible. Where this is not possible, recruitment shall be made having regard to its financial implications. Candidates shall be solely responsible for any travel or other expenses incurred in order to participate in the recruitment process or, upon selection, take up the appointment. Staff members subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances and benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

With its 192 member countries, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.
Main duties:
1. Within the framework of the preparation of meeting documents for the Postal Operations Council, the Council of Administration and the Congress, and of various other International Bureau publications and documents:
- format (or type as required) texts, documents and various publications, making the corrections as indicated and producing the final proof;
- participate in the checking of work formatted by the Arabic Typing Pool;
- input final versions of official texts and documents into the translation memory software;
- carry out page-setting work and adapt official document models to the Arabic language, using the software used by the International Bureau's Graphic Arts Unit;
- maintain the Arabic-language document database (documents of the UPU bodies and International Bureau circulars) on the intranet and Internet;

2. Replace, on request, the Head of the Arabic Typing Pool in case of absence.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Education:
Completion of secondary studies or equivalent technical or commercial studies
Experience:
0 to 2 years' experience in an administrative support role
Technical knowledge:
1. Sound knowledge of formatting and typing techniques
2. Good knowledge of graphic arts software (Indesign)
3. Good knowledge of the functioning of translation software (Trados is an asset)
4. Good knowledge of procedures for publishing documents on the intranet and Internet
5. Very good knowledge of Word software
6. Good knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel
Skills and abilities / competencies:

Language skills:
Perfect command of Arabic with a good knowledge of French and/or English.
Additional Information:
Candidates might be considered for other similar posts (for a period not exceeding one year).
