Organizational Context:
With its 192 member countries, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.
|
Main duties:
General mission: translate or edit internal or external UPU texts
1. Translation
- Translate texts from French to English, seeking the advice of the Head of STAN where necessary and carrying out the necessary research to minimize the need for revision by another member of the STAN team
- As required, participate in the revision of STAN colleagues' texts
2. Editing
- Edit English texts, seeking the advice of the Head of STAN where necessary and carrying out the necessary research to minimize the need for revision by another member of the STAN team
- Provide formal or informal drafting advice to the authors of texts
3. Other
- Contribute to the development of specialized terminology for the UPU
- Participate in testing of new language-related tools or products
- As required, deputize for the Head of STAN during his absence

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED |
Education:
Bachelor's degree in translation or modern languages from a recognized institution |
Experience:
Minimum of five years' experience as a translator |
Technical knowledge:
1. Good knowledge of the operations and areas of activity of the United Nations and its specialized agencies
2. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools (Trados or equivalent), and standard office software applications
3. Good practical terminological research skills using the Internet or other sources
4. Knowledge of database tools

Language skills:
English - Mother tongue
French - Fluent
Knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese or Russian would be an asset

Additional Information:
Annual salary:(Net of tax)
60,233 USD
Post adjustment:
69.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
