Organizational Context:
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 192 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne, Switzerland.
Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples.
The UPU comprises several bodies, which considers regulatory, operational and technical matters of interest to the postal service. It promotes the development and introduction of new postal services. It also establishes standards for the various technological, operational or other processes and procedures for their implementation.
General context of the traineeship:
In the context described above, it is paramount that the UPU ensures the provision of affordable and viable universal postal services through sustainable remuneration systems applied by postal designated operators in their international postal exchanges with each other. In this regard, the UPU aims to implement a more integrated approach to remuneration system aspects and research activities across the full range of postal services with a view to modernizing and integrating the UPU remuneration systems.

Main duties:
Under the supervision of the manager of the postal remuneration programme and with support of the experts, the main objective of the intern's work will be to build up a database and conduct comparative analyses in support of the development of integrated remuneration solutions.
Main tasks will include: - Collection of domestic postal service tariffs to build up a database in support of studies and technical analyses; - Assess and propose improvements to the formula to convert domestic tariffs into rates applied by postal designated operators in their international postal exchanges with each other, as a proxy to costs,; - Conduct comparative analyses for the identification of gaps and inconsistencies on the remuneration of different postal services, in order to feed findings into the development of integrated remuneration solutions.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED |
Technical knowledge:
Exclusively open to students enrolled in a bachelor's or master's programme in economics or statistics or similar or to recent graduates (less than 6 months) in the previous mentioned fields.

French or English

In line with UPU rules, this traineeship is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for STUDENTS. Any other candidate profile will not be considered. Recent graduates in the areas described above are also invited to apply. They must have graduated within six months of the date of this announcement.
The intership will be remunerated in accordance with the current Universal Postal Union rules.
