Organizational Context:
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 192 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne.

Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples.

The UPU comprises several bodies, including the Postal Operations Council (POC), made up of representatives from 41 member countries, which considers operational and technical matters of interest to the postal service. It promotes the introduction of new postal products. It also establishes standards for the various technological, operational or other processes and procedures for their implementation.

The Directorate of Human Resources provides advice and administrative services to the General Management of the UPU and to staff members in the preparation and interpretation of policy and rules. The Policy Unit assists the Director of Human Resources in updating the UPU Staff regulations and Rules and is responsible for the preparation and update of HR-related procedures.
Main duties:
The trainee will work within the Directorate of the Human Resources and under the supervision of the Programme Manager (Policy Unit). He/she will be required to:

- Collects and compile data through internet research of rules and best practices on Human Resources management within and outside the UN common systems;
- Assist in drafting and preparing policy documents;
- Contribute to the development of relevant HR guidance and tools;
- Compile statistics.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Education:
Bachelor or Master's or equivalent in the field of Labour Law or Human Resources
Technical knowledge:
- Good knowledge of Office tools with an advanced skills in Word, Excel and internet.
Skills and abilities / competencies:
- Data analysis skills.
- Excellent organization, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Good oral and communication skills in English or in French.
- Good teamwork skills.
Language skills:
Fluency in English or French and a good working knowledge of the other language.
Additional Information:
According to our rules, this internship is EXCLUSIVELY RESERVED to a STUDENT ENROLLED in a university or other higher educational establishment, whose program of study is in progress or about to finish OR A RECENT GRADUATE who has received his/her diploma WITHIN THE LAST TWO TERMS.

All other profiles will NOT be taken into consideration.

The candidate must be:
- at least 20 at the date of application and be able to work full time,
- not related to a staff member (son/daughter, brother/sister).

The selection process will include written tests and an interview.

The traineeship will be remunerated in accordance with current UPU rules.

The conditions of service are governed by the Staff Regulations and Rules of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union.
