Organizational Context:
With its 192 member countries, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. The Postal sector has been confronted with far-reaching changes over the past few years. It has become essential for Posts to apply the latest technology in order to respond effectively to the evolution of their customer needs. The Postal Technology Centre (PTC) of the UPU acts as the link between technology and the needs of the Postal industry by becoming the first choice in providing IT solutions, applications and services that enables the delivery of international and national postal services.

Main duties:
The PTC is looking for a Software Technical Writer with at least two years' technical writing experience. The duties of the position are as follows:
Writes and updates all end-user documentation as assigned, such as online help for PTC applications and installation guides, using the appropriate software for the task
Ensures quality of documentation by adhering to departmental standards and by using established methods and techniques for writing user documentation
Works closely with managers, software developers and technical account managers to gather essential information
Creates and designs training materials, including multi-media content, using the appropriate software for the task
Ensures quality of materials by adhering to departmental standards and by using established methods and standards designed to facilitate adult learning
Performs quality checking on various documentation projects, such as verifying links in online help

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED |
Education: 1st level university degree (BA or similar) in Technical Writing, Journalism or related field |
Experience:
At least 2 years' experience in technical writing in a software environment
Experience with Madcap Flare (or similar help authoring software) and Adobe FrameMaker
Experience in writing training materials

Technical knowledge:
Good knowledge of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
Knowledge of postal mail or logistics would be an asset
|
Skills and abilities / competencies:
Ability to work independently Good at learning new concepts quickly and communicating them clearly Self-motivated Good analytical skills Excellent communication skills
|
Language skills:
English proficiency. The ability to communicate in French or other languages used in the United Nations system would be an advantage
|
